Restoration and Reuse of the Former Military Hospital in Catanzaro

Building Redevolpment Prize

CORVINO+MULTARI

The restoration, conservation, rehabilitation and re-functionalization with the expansion of the former Catanzaro Military Hospital are examples of heritage rehabilitation of decommissioned state properties. At the same time, they drive the transformation and enhancement of public space. At the core of this strategy is the idea of “two Courts”: a “historical” one relating to a construction built from the 15th century onward, used from the second half of the 19th century as a Military Hospital and finally decommissioned in 2005; another “contemporary” one which complements the first by adopting a similar typological layout.
