New PWC Offices in Rome
The Redevelopment of an Urban Landmark entering into the City
Progetto CMR
The former Palace of Credito Fondiario Fonspa is an example of the Modernist style from the ‘60s by architect Giulio Sterbini. The building is just at the intersection between via Cristoforo Colombo and the perpendicular Circonvallazione Ostiense. This point is a crossroad of direct connections between the historical city, Fiumicino Airport and its district. It stands as an iconic reference point for the entrance to Rome. Its rehabilitation fits in the regeneration of the wide area comprising, in addition to the Garbatella neighborhood, the adjacent Ostiense district, which hosts the new University of Roma Tre. Thus, it is an important intervention for this part of the city, focusing on two factors: the quality of the urban fabric where the building is located and its architectural characteristics, among which ductility and transformability, which is essential to guarantee the adaption to new functions.
