NAPLES-BARI HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY LINE: A SUSTAINABLE INFRASTRUCTURE THAT GENERATES VALUE FOR THE TERRITORY
introduction
Nicoletta Antonias, Giusy Elena Caci
The Naples-Bari high-speed railway route project aims to fulfill the need for improving internal railway connections in Southern Italy by realizing an efficient and interconnected infrastructural route to support the economic and social development of the involved territories. The interventions related to the Naples-Bari stretch represent a tangible opportunity to contribute to the sustainability goals to reduce environmental impact and decarbonization, deal with social and territorial inequality through higher cohesion and integration, create new connections and improve collectivity’s quality of life. Naples-Bari is the first sustainable infrastructure certified with the Envision® protocol in Europe and the first railway line with this acknowledgment worldwide. The project has achieved the platinum level of the protocol, certifying RFI’s commitment to developing projects by sharing them with territories for their protection, valorization and development. Specifically, the project for the Frasso Telesino-San Lorenzo and Apice-Hirpinia lines has achieved the highest scores in the “Quality of life” category of the protocol. This proves significant attention in seeking the highest compatibility with the reference socio-territorial context in design solutions, tangibly fulfilling the collectivity’s needs and expectations, and allowing the synergic construction of a scenario of integrated interventions to support the territory’s sustainable growth.
